This page explains who we are and how we select materials posted on this site. This is our response to the Code of Conduct of the Health on the Net Foundation (HON), whose logo appears on many of our pages. The eight basic principles of the HON-Code can be summarized as follows (see the link above for the full text). 1) Medical information on Internet Sites should be provided by health care professionals -- or if not, we should say so. We should state the qualifications of all authors, whether or not they are professionals. All information on this site is reviewed for accuracy by health care professionals and by Trigeminal Neuralgia patients and support network people who know the disorder from the inside. The webmaster seeks out reprints and related links, and occasionally writes original material. However, everything must pass the same independent review. We actively solicit comment by readers and we'll fix any factual error or reflect new discoveries confirmed from independent sources. Likewise, though we believe our off-site links may be helpful, we can not guarantee the accuracy of things we didn't write. Readers need to understand that medical science is still learning about TN and related disorders. We make a good faith effort to acknowledge uncertainties in medical practice, and we invite experts to share their clinical experience to help resolve unknowns. 2) Information on health care sites should support but does not replace your relationship to your doctor. You will find reminders to that effect throughout the site. 3) Any information you provide that relates to your identity is held in confidence. We strive to exceed any applicable legal standard or requirement. The Trigeminal Neuralgia Association does not release its mailing list or the individual patient data in our National Patient Register. If or when this site expands its services to include bulletin board or chat room, we'll protect your privacy unless you wish otherwise. 4) Information should be attributed to original sources, directly linked if possible, and dated by last modification. If we don't know where information comes from, the webmaster doesn't post it. Information is referenced or otherwise clearly qualified as opinion. Many pages are linked to original material, and everything is date stamped. 5) Claims about product performance should be supported by balanced evidence. We publish or link to articles about medical, surgical and alternative treatment outcomes. In each case, we try to offer the best supported information we can find. However, TNA does not advocate the claims of one practitioner over another. Independent clinical evidence must clarify such issues. 6) Sites should strive for clear writing and identify the Webmaster's address for corrections. The webmaster's address is on every page. If you don't understand something, tell us and we'll fix or explain it. 7) You have a right to know who supports medical websites or provides information or services they offer. The TNA Homepage is sponsored by the Trigeminal Neuralgia Association, a Non-Profit Organization incorporated in New Jersey. Internet Service Provider fees are paid by the Association from its general fund of public donations. Site maintenance is performed by the Webmaster, as an unpaid volunteer. 8) You have a right to know if a medical site is funded by advertising. Advertising should be presented in a way that clearly distinguishes it from original content created by the Site owner. |
