TN Patient

Her Personal Story

For 20 years I had increasing symptoms of classic TN. I had phantom jaw pain over the years, and two dentists had removed teeth and then apologized because there was nothing wrong with them; I had tried hot packs, cold packs, chewing gum, not chewing gum, avoiding dental work and cleanings because that would set off the pain, ear aches with no discernable cause, etc. ( And of course, all the pain killers.) I had all the classic symptoms, and then I began having the throbbing pains in my temple, and then, wow, the horrible, pain-paralizing shooting, sharp pains that travelled from my temple through the jaw. I saw several doctors and dentists over the years, but got no help beyond pain pills. Fiinally one day I passed out from the pain, and woke up in the hospital. My regular doctors were not available, and I ended up with a physicians assistant, who took a short history and said, "I think you have Trigeminal Neuralgia", and prescribed tegretal. This was a relief within half an hour, and except for the usual side effects, I got along quite well, taking the teg as I needed it..

Then in a few years I began having troubles with a very high cholesteral count, and my doctor began the search for some remedy for this condition, I had poor reactions to Crestor, so I began searching for some help myself. I decided to try Omega 3, and began taking 3,000 mg a day. Within a week or two I noticed I was taking less teg, and within a month or two the attacks stopped completely. As I had been a member of a support group in Portland, Oregon, in about a year I took my Omega 3 bottle with me and went to one of their meetings. Imagine my surprise when another woman showed up with the same eperience. She said she, too, had been trying to get the word across but no one would listen to her.

It has now been about 5 years since I have had an attack, not a one since I started the Omega 3! I would say to any sufferer, "Try it, it won't hurt you."

If this helps even one person, I am glad I have tried again to get the word across. Thanks for listening.

PS The chloestral has improved, too.
