J. Elbert PetersHis Personal Story about Pectin - Follow-up |

For about three months I have been using powdered pectin to relieve my pain from trigeminal neuralgia. Once per day, usually about 3:00 p.m., I take a teaspoon of powdered pectin mixed thoroughly in a large glass of water. Before I started using pectin, I was taking a 200 mg carbamazepine tablet three times a day and a 75 mg lyrica capsule three times a day. I took both of these medications at 7:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. These two prescribed medication kept the pain under control most of the time, but I felt a little pain almost every day and frequently I felt a little pain several times a day. Occasionally I would have a breakthrough that usually lasted several minutes. Since I started taking pectin, I have been essentially pain free all of the time. I learned about pectin from a lady who said she had been using it for about 20 years to relieve her pain from another form of neuralgia. After a month of good results with pectin, I decided to slowly reduce the amount of carbamazepine I was taking. During the past two months, I have reduced the daily carbamazepine intake to one third the initial amount. I plan to continue slowly reducing the carbamazepine dosage for another month, at which time I will no longer be taking this medicine. I then plan to slowly reduce the amount of lyrica until I am no longer on it. If the pain should reoccur while I am reducing the amount of one of the prescribed medication, I plan to temporarily stop reducing this dosage and will temporarily increase the daily amount of pectin powder to a tablespoon. The lady who told me about using pectin said she occasionally had to increase the amount of pectin to keep her pain under control. Posted 3-05-07 |
